Original Viennese apple strudel

What else does a person need?

Almost every family in Austria has an apple strudel recipe, handed down over generations, that they swear by. We also. For in our Hofbackstube we honour an old recipe of the imperial palace bakers. Every day we freshly mix the dough, finely chop the typical slightly sour apples, tenderly fry butter crumbs in the pan, add raisins and cinnamon to taste and fill the wafer-thin dough with care. Apple strudel is served, crispy baked and oven-warm, at our Café Residenz. Even experienced grandmothers always pay us their respect. And this praise makes us very happy.

"Excellent!"

Why our apple strudel tastes so heavenly?

Very simple. Because we prepare it with love and by hand according to the best Viennese pastry tradition and bake it fresh every day.

Dish with history

The oldest recipe from 1696 is preserved in the Viennese Public Library. Several writings prove that the strudel was "invented" in the empire of the Habsburger. This happened in the 18th century. During this time, this classic Viennese dessert was served for the Empress Maria Theresia. Today it is a traditional national food, which is internationally known.
